The creative proposal for this painting originated from Ann Getty, who desired a painting of a bookshelf. I designed a composition of two bookshelves side-by-side in a diptych style. Each bookshelf is divided into four parts, exhibiting disciplines of the humanities: theatre, literature, and art. The masks displayed at the top shelves are recognized as a symbol of theatre and drama, and originate from Greek mythology. I sketched the masks to determine the placement of the comedy and tragedy character. Old but precious books line the middle shelves, with each book presenting a title of Getty’s favorite author. The delicate art of blue and white Porcelain Delft pottery is displayed below the literary works.

Дождался я ответного письма...
Оно пришло как раз на день рожденья.
И радуясь, как малое дитя.
Ему в восторге был на удивленье.
Таких мне слов порою не хватало,
Душа страдала часто, как в аду...
И сердце кровью в жажде обливало.
Срываясь в стресс за светлую черту.
За это мне Господь прибавил века,
За муки, голод, холод на веку...
Чтоб утвердиться в образе творца и человека
Как дар, нести народу своему.
Несу я этот крест труда и муки.
Несу по грешной матушке - земле.
И в светлый час, и час невольной скуки,
Несу с достоинством в судьбе.
А то письмо, что Вы прислали,
Как солнца луч, мне душу осветил.
Как будто я стою на пьедестале,
За труд, что в жизни совершил.
И я склоняю голову седую,
За Вашу доброту, сердечный ясный ум.
Чтоб дружба превратилась в вековую,
И с Вами б я в бессмертие шагнул!
